Watch – Mohammed Shami Hits Gold, Cleans up Munro off a Beauty

What a day Shami is having; not one, but two wickets in two overs for him in New Zealand. The India fast bowler got the visitors off to a brilliant start in the first ODI in Napier. After he had Martin Guptill’s number, Mohammed Shami clean bowled opener, Colin Munro off an excellent delivery. In his second over itself, the right-arm pacer found the gap between Munro’s bat and pad to give his side a second breakthrough.

Shami scalps two inside four overs

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first at the McLean Park in Napier. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami, India’s opening bowling pair found some movement off the surface early on. Though Kumar leaked a few boundaries, Shami kept it tight at the other end.
In his first over, he had Guptill chopping one onto his stumps, while in his second over, the pacer clean bowled southpaw Munro off a beauty. Though the attacking opener looked to tear apart the Indian bowling with his intent, a change of angle for Shami had done the job for India.

Colin Munro in the previous over before getting out, smacked two fours off Bhuvneshwar; pushing the run-rate high for the Kiwis. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami came around the wicket to Munro and got the ball to move in with the angle. The left-handed batsman didn’t move his feet and thus allowed the ball to perish the wickets. He scored eight runs off nine deliveries as well.

Shami filling the filler’s role

In the absence of India’s pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, Shami has done the filler’s job well. Even in the Australia ODIs, he had picked five wickets in three games and bowled well in the death too. Now, to press his case for selection as the third seamer for the 2019 World Cup, Shami would want to take as many wickets as possible.
